Are you saying yes to everyone else, except yourself?

The unconscious agreements we make with the world -- where we agree to say yes to everyone, even at the expense of our own happiness.

The Yes-es we agree to are not even literal. It is not about us uttering the word, yes, it is our action, taking on more at our own expense because we think we should.

Here's a checklist that you might find useful:

  • Do you say yes to your loved ones to keep the peace?
  • Do you say yes to more work in your office because you feel not good enough to stand up for yourself?
  • Do you say yes to gain recognition, because you need external validation?
  • Do you say yes to your friends out of obligation?
  • Do you allow others to use your resources because you do not want to appear selfish or stingy?
  • Do you allow yourself to be abused physically, mentally and emotionally?
  • Do you say yes because you're guilty or ashamed?
  • Do you say yes because you don't know what you want or who you are, and so you overextend yourself?
  • Do you say yes to others because you feel responsible for their happiness?

These are just some of the yes-es we agree to, consciously or unconsciously.

Use this checklist to assess yourself. What needs to change?

When you say yes to others at the expense of yourself, you are no longer in integrity. You are living a lie and not a life of honesty, even if you pride yourself as an honest person.

Learning to say No, is one of the hardest things to do if you have been consciously and unconsciously saying yes to others.

I share this with you to explore so that you may begin something new today. It is never too early or too late to re-assess your mindset, your life and re-learn the ways to live in integrity.
