Energy follows thought, is this true?

Heard of this saying energy follows thought?

It is with this saying that many people have learned on the path of personal development that they can create the life they want and that if they thought about it more and repeat the thought, the outcome they want will become a reality. 

But is this really true? 

Or is this some misguided information passed down by franchised motivational/personal development institutions as a money generating machine for their own pockets?

There is a reason why it is called personal development. It is simply development and growth from the personality perspective. Our growth on the personality level can only take us up to a certain point, and as we are ever-evolving beings, we are not just going to be satisfied with just personality level growth, we will crave for more, sooner or later. 

The area of our beingness which has a bigger impact on our lives is our spiritual/soul/higher purpose development. 

So the trouble with personal development gurus is that they teach methodology and hard-hitting mind methods that are totally appropriate to satisfy just the personality, but it leaves the soul/spirit starving. 

Soul and spiritual development is a whole other ball game. You can repeat the affirmations and visualisations all you want, but your spirit/soul/higher self has a different game plan for you, all it means is you will end up feeling extremely frustrated, angry that you got cheated by the personality development guru, bitter that you spent thousands of dollars, angry with yourself for not being able to do it right. And at the end of the day, you still feel lost, and still not knowing what you should be doing. 

All sounds too familiar?

Well, those personal development gurus aren't wrong, it is just that they could not take you further than your spirit wanted you to go.

And looking at what is happening to the world now, 10s and thousands of people are awakening to their spirit/soul/higher self/higher purpose, and one does not even need to have a religion or spiritual belief to start waking up and feeling an itch to live more purposeful lives. 

So energy follows thought on the personality level. 

But the personality has to follow the energy thought out by one's higher self or soul or spirit. This is energy far more powerful than what you can create in your own mind. Because your higher self/soul/spirit has imprinted this onto your design. Call it fate, if you like. Though fate seems disempowering. I prefer to call it a higher purpose, and all of our lessons in life are gearing us towards that higher purpose. And the thing is: everything that happens in life are lessons. Every single thing. 

You can resist all you like, but your higher purpose has a way to push you towards what is ultimately yours. 

So energy does follow thought, but you must learn to use your mind to use energies effectively and align your thoughts with those from a more powerful source, that is: your higher self/soul/spirit/higher purpose.
