Human Whisperer, Part 2

The challenges of communication go deeper than just being an effective communicator.

Everyone comes with their own load of stuff:

  • unhealed childhood issues, and doesn't even have to be big traumas. They could be unresolved sadness, unresolved anger, not being heard, not being seen etc
  • life experiences (vast or narrow determines a person's world views) If a person is well travelled and well-immersed multi-culturally, well read and has a deep level of self-awareness, how can you communicate with such a person if you have never left your home town, or even have an awareness that goes beyond your own needs?
  • cultural, traditional and religious backgrounds play a significant role in how one perceives the world.
  • self-responsibility for one's own health (emotional, mental, physical and spiritual) needs and wants. If one is completely dependent on someone else to tell them what is wrong with their own health, then they are completely reliant on others. For this, I always tell people, to seek a second opinion and more. This deeply impacts how one communicates with such a person.
  • if one is willing to be a true participant in life, or just a by-stander determines how committed they are to a cause, goal, or project

So you may be the best orator in the world, but if you have no idea where another is coming from, then your message will not be delivered. However, this is not all bad news, because this also means you need to know who do you wish to reach out to.

And people who do not matter, do not matter.

Keep your focus and energies on your family and the people you care about. Extra care is needed to understand and empathise with where they are coming from. Granted in the heat of the moment, when our own needs are not met, we can very easily point our finger at the other, and communication will fail. We have all been there. So how do we get the best of our connection with our family?

Patience.

I know, patience is just so difficult when things get combative and we feel tired. If we feel tired of waiting, that is not patience. If we feel drained, that is not patience. It is only tolerance.

However, true patience is not about waiting. Patience is a deep spiritual practice, where we allow the stillness of waiting to keep our hearts open. I am going to say that again: Patience is the act of stillness, and in the waiting, we allow our hearts to open. In patience, we continue to keep our hearts open.

So patience is not about waiting for time to pass. It is a conscious act of awareness. Whereas, impatience is an indication of an immature level of consciousness. Remember this: when you feel impatient, remind yourself that you have slipped into child mode.

With family and people closest to us, investing in patience is worth the effort. Because it is in our patience that we keep our communication lines open and we seek to understand and open our hearts to listen.

You will find that when you open your heart wide in the act of patience, your needs are fulfilled by YOU.

You do not have a need to be praised, liked, raised up, or have a million likes on your social media.

When you can keep your heart open despite everything that is going on, your human whispering skills are up-levelled.

Being a Human Whisperer is in truth, being able to communicate with self first and foremost and through that, you are heard by self.

Just like being on an aeroplane where you are told to buckle your own seat belt first before helping others when you have heard and listened to yourself, you will be prepared to listen to people you care about. And when you are listening, you are communicating.
